KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA SANGATHAN is is a premier organization in India administering 1093 schools as on May 01, 2021 known as ''Kendriya Vidyalayas'' with 11,21,012 students as on March 31, 2021 and 56,445 employees on rolls as on October 01, 2017.
Since inception in 1965, the Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools) have come to be known as centres of excellence in the field of secondary and senior secondary education promoting national integration and a sense of ''Indianness'' among the children while ensuring their total personality development and academic excellence.....
Mission
- To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education ;
- To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education;
- To initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc.
- To develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of "Indianness" among children.
Objectives of KVS
- To cater to the educational needs of the children of transferable Central Government employees including Defence and Para-Military personnel by providing a common programme of education;
- To pursue excellence and set pace in the field of school education;
- To initiate and promote experimentation and innovativeness in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education and National Council of
- To carry out Educational Research and Training etc.

- To Provide, establish, endow, maintain, control & manage schools, hereinafter called the 'Kendriya Vidyalaya' for the children of transferable employees of the Government of India, floating populations & others including those living in remote & undeveloped locations of the country & to do all acts & things necessary for the conducive to the promotions of such schools.
- Common text-books and bilingual medium of instructions for all Kendriya Vidyalayas.
- All Kendriya Vidyalayas are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education
- All Kendriya Vidyalayas are co-educational, composite schools.
- Sanskrit is taught from class VI - VIII.
- The quality of teaching is kept reasonably high by an appropriate teacher-pupil ratio.
- No tuition fee for boys upto Class VIII, girls upto Class XII and SC/ST students and children of KVS employees.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860). The primary aim of the Sangathan is to provide,establish,endow,maintain control and manage the Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) located all over India and abroad. The Sangathan has three tier management structure with its (I) Headquarters (II) Regional Offices managing a cluster about 45-50 schools and (III) Kendriya Vidyalayas spread all over the country and abroad each having their Vidyalaya Manangement Committees.
General body of SangathanThe general body of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is the apex body. The Minister of Human Resource Development, in-charge of the Kendriya Vidyalayas scheme, is the Chairman of the Sangathan. The Minister of state in the Ministry of Human Resource Development is the Deputy Chairman and an Officer of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, specified by the Government of India for this purpose, is the Vice Chairman of the Sangathan. Other members are appointed by the Government of India from amongst senior officers of the Ministries of Finance, Defence,Works and Housing, Health and department of Personnel and Trainning as well as distinguished educationists including representatives of the Central Board of Secondary Education. National Council of Educational Research and Training and State Governments besides Members of Parliament, Women representatives and Members of Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes.
Standing CommitteeFinance Committee, Works Committee and Academic Advisory Committee are the Standing Committees of the Board of Governors of the Sangathan. The functions and powers of these Committees in brief, are as under:
Academic Advisory CommitteeTo advice about the academic and co-curricular programmes of Kendriya Vidyalayas - to help prepare guidelines for implementation of these programmes - to help Kendriya Vidyalayas realize, among others, the objectives of the Sangathan, viz., to develop the Vidyalayas as "School of Excellence" in the context of the National goals of education - to promote national integration and to review publication programmes and suggest improvements.
Finance CommitteeTo scrutinize the accounts and budget estimates of the Sangathan - to consider and make recommendations to the Board for new expenditure on account of major work - to scrutinize re- appropriation statement and audit notes and to review the finances of the Sangathan besides getting concurrent audit conducted.
Administrative & Establishment CommitteeThe function of the Committee will be to advice the Sangathan and decide on all Administrative & Establishment matters of the KVS and recommend to Board of Governance of KVS.
Works CommitteeTo recommend the work policy of the Sangathan - to consider and approve the work programme- to prescribe norms for issue of administrative approval and expenditure sanction - to review the progress of construction work to advice the Board on policy matters relating to works programme. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Delevopment, Govt Of India which was started way back in 1964 for the benefit of the children of transferable employees of the Government of India. 1193 schools are located allover India under 25 different KVS Regions
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Lucknow Region is one among the 25 regions which connects 72 Kendriya Vidyalayas dotted on the landscape of Uttar Pradesh. Kendriya Vidyalayas have an effective and well-knit organizational set-up. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and its Board of Governors are headed by the Minister of Human Resource Development as the Chairman.
